A segment is a group of contacts that are part of your community. They can be created via two distinct ways using dynamic filters or using a CSV import.
What can I do with a segment?
With your segments, you can:
- 📊 See who are the people within a segment: how many contacts, their age, their gender, the number of events they've attended, and the amount they've spent on your events
- 🔍 See the list of contacts and their attributes in this segment (learn more about contacts)
- 📂 Export the contacts with their attributes via CSV
- ✉️ Send a mailing campaign to all contacts in this segment
- 😻 Restrict the access of a specific ticket to this segment (learn more)
Note: You can name, add a description, and select an emoji associated with each of your segments when creating it 👻
1 - Create a segment based on dynamic filters
You might want to regroup some of your contacts based on which events they attended, their age, their geographical area, how much they spent on your events’ tickets, etc. Dynamic filter segments allow you to do that!
From the contact listing: Click on "Filter" and select the filter you want to apply
From the segment listing: Click on "New segment" then "Create dynamic segment"
💡 Every segment created this way is dynamic (it will evolve over time). Let’s say you create a segment of Parisian contacts that are subscribed to your newsletter, if a contact’s geolocation is updated to another city, they will be removed from this segment. On the other hand, if a Parisian contact subscribes to your newsletter, they will be added to this segment.
📄 You can see here a detailed list of all the available filters.
2 - Create a segment with a CSV import
When importing a list of contacts to your community (via a .csv file), you can automatically save them as a dedicated segment. This lets you be in full control. You can use whatever logic you want to create a segment within the Smartboard. Use other provider’s data or a custom Excel file—you are in full control!
From the contact listing: Click on "Import segment" then "Save as a segment"
From the segment listing: Click on "New segment" then "Create a manual segment"
💡 If you re-import an existing contact in your community, it works as well: the contact will be updated and won't be duplicated.
Add and remove contact from a static segment
You can easily add and remove contacts from your static segments.
- To add contacts, click on Actions > Import new contacts. You can now import new contacts using a CSV file.
- To remove a contact, hover the contact with your mouse and click on Remove
