Thinking about organizing a free event?
Good news: Shotgun lets you publish free events, as long as they are entirely free from start to finish. In this article, we’ll clarify the rules, show you how to publish your event, and explain why some options, like waiting lists, are not available for free tickets.

Can I publish a free event on Shotgun?
Yes. Shotgun authorizes the publication of free events, provided that they are 100% free.
This means:
- No tickets are sold on site
- No parallel ticketing via another platform
How to publish a free event?
Publishing a free event works almost exactly like publishing any other event on Shotgun.
Here’s how to do it:
- Create your event
- Create tickets priced at 0€
- Launch your event on sale
Even though your event is free, you must still complete the mandatory sign-up setup steps, including your Stripe verification, which is a legal requirement to issue tickets, even for free events.
⚠️ Only the bank account (IBAN) setup is optional for free events.
Can I set up a waiting list for a free event?
No. Unfortunately, it is not possible to activate a waiting list for free events.
Here’s why:
- Resale is not available for free events on Shotgun
- Since the waiting list is linked to our resale system, it cannot be activated for free events
💡 We recommend taking a potential no-show rate into account when defining your event capacity. This helps you maximize attendance while staying within your venue limits.
